All athletic insurance policies are not created equal. Some have coverage for Basketball PSAs, some have coverage for all PSAs, and some have none.
Here are a few questions you need to research about your policy/coverage:
- Does your current secondary plan cover Prospective Student-Athletes? Is that just for basketball or will that also apply to football this summer following the recently updated NCAA bylaws?
- Is your policy worded to only include coverage while PSAs are on their official visits? Or does it extend to include coverage while using facilities or participating in pre-season activities after signing their NLI?
- What would happen if a (not quite an official NCAA SA) prospective student-athlete were to suffer a catastrophic injury during a working out with the team or playing during an official OR unofficial visit?
Depending on the answers to these questions, you may need to dig in a bit with your current athletic insurance partner and/or reach out for some quotes that would cover these instances. You may also be a good candidate for a new policy that covers your Prospective Student-Athletes for catastrophic injuries. This coverage matches the coverage that formal NCAA Student-Athletes receive covering them from $90,000 to $5,000,000 in the event of an accidental injury.
The great news is, we have this product available and it is only $900/year. We consider it a must-have for all our NCAA member clients and is an inexpensive risk management tool. Complete the form on this page to engage and get your coverage in place now.
